Christmas Morning Service 2008

Jesus the gift of hope.

Hope is a precious commodity. We hope all sorts of things and we live in hope. When our hope is destroyed, we are devastated. So this winter, are hoping to survive. Others hope to get a job, still others hope to get their money back from Iceland. Others hope to be able to keep their homes. Some hope for better health. None of these things in themselves are bad things. But if our lives depend on them or our self worth is cased on them we have no peace or certainty.
God’s message to you this morning is to shift your hope to Jesus. God sent him to earth to not just give a warm cheery comfort but to give real hope a real future, permanent wealth

H ope is a person – Jesus

We do not have a policy or programme or dream to offer hope. Jesus is our hope because he is God become flesh and blood like you and me so that he could die and rise again. He is our hope because he is still alive having risen from the dead. He has promises to keep that he hcan keep – eternal life and the presence of the Holy Spirit now.

O ffer himself as the Christmas gift

–He grew up and in three years transformed our understanding of God. He showed that God is interested in people as individuals. Jesus healed the sick, spoke to the children, provided booze for a party, broke with religious traditions to demonstrate his love, and offered himself in your place, to bear your punishment. He offers you salvation from sin, freedom from guilt, and salvation to eternal life.

P resence of Jesus.

Jesus is for life not just for Christmas. Because Jesus is alive, he is here as the Holy Spirit, invisible but able to transform our day by his presence. This is not just any day, it is another day with Jesus. Jesus who knows what it is like to be human, yet without sin. He understands how it is and wants to change the way you think about everything around you. He can make a great difference today, if you will let him.

E ternal lifeJesus is for eternal life not just for the next few years. On a day which is about new birth, sadly many of us are reminded of those we miss. But the Good news of Jesus is that he offers eternal life. This is so different from what we know, it is hard for us to get enthusiastic. It is not unending boredom, it is about living in a way that is better than the best days of our lives. Today we celebrate Jesus coming to earth. The other news is that he is coming again, for everyone who has turned from their sin and trusted in his salvation. So have you hope today? Have you Jesus in your life? Have you accepted him as your Saviour and Lord? Then enjoy today, because it is full of promise and Hope, hope that will not disappoint us because God has poured out his love into our hearts by the Holy Spirit. Whom he has given us.
